I am always on my iPhone or iPad looking for new content to occupy my time. Sometimes, I run out of stuff to read on Reddit or my social media accounts and so I turn to the web. I have downloaded a few apps that give access to articles, but this combines an audio feature that makes it perfect for use in my car or when I don’t have time to be looking at a screen. I usually listen to podcasts on my drive, but with Colony FM, I can now enjoy articles on the go without having to take time out of my day to sit down and dedicate to reading.
Pros:
The best thing about this app is the audio feature. You can take articles on the platform and have it read to you by a soothing, clear voice. This makes it perfect for use on the go. Instead of having to sit down and read through a bunch of articles, I can just create a playlist and take them in on the go. A lot of the times I see the same kinds of articles and can get frustrated trying to find good stuff online, but Colony FM makes it easy to just skip to the next one and see what comes up. If I’m interested in it, I can favorite or add it to a playlist and listen to it on the go. I can also choose to read the article if I don’t want to take advantage of the audio feature, which is awesome when I don’t have my headphones with me.
The design is sleek and not overbearing. Sometimes I think new apps can be really clunky and hard to use, but I didn’t really run into that problem with this one. I am getting an Apple Watch this year and I can’t wait to see how it integrates with something like Colony FM, because I think this could be a great app for when I’m out on walks or runs and tired of listening to music.
[huge_it_slider id=”14″]I went to their website too and you can actually request articles that you want them to put on the app. This is good because you can tell them what you’re interested in and then hopefully start seeing more of that type of article when you’re using it.
Cons:
The app is developed really nicely. If there is one downside, it’s that I don’t always love the voice reading the article. But I’m just really picky when it comes to that. It can also eat up some data if I’m not connected to my wireless network which is a potential downside.
Overall, I think this is an app that will keep on my phone for a while. I am always interested in reading and learning more, and I think this is a great way to get the knowledge that I’m looking for without having to search forever and then actually sit down and read what interests me. Definitely a lifesaver for long drives and my commute home from work!
