Photo lab is one of the most versatile photo apps for iPhone that gives the user a wide range of both artistic and photographic effects which enables you to enhance your photo with ease. Its side-by side preview and the ability to switch between portrait and landscape give it a unique characteristic that is rewarding to the user. The application does give images at the full 1,600-by-1200 iPhone photo resolution at the same time offer small size 1,024-by-768 and 640-by-480 which is advantageous to the user. Though saving images may with large size may take some time but the end results is worth the wait and the user has the option of scaling down the photos if he or she wishes to. On an evaluation test with sudobilitys own photo test patterns, the images are absolutely perfect.
With its double preview modes, photo lab gives the user the ability to preview in a split screen with the current saved version displaying at the top screen or rather on left if in landscape mode with the previewed effect displaying at the bottom or on the right if in a landscape mode. It’s among the few iphone applications with split screen features with only our editor’s choice and Photogene having similar feature. When in hover mode, current version will fill the screen, a section of image being previewed pops into view window above the slider and arrows unlike other hovers where the preview disappears soon if the screen remains untouched hence this makes split –screen view the most preferred option by majority of iPhone users.
The crop function enables the user crop images to various formats with ease,square,8-by 10,5-by-7,4-by-6,3-by-4,16:9 (HDTV) and 16:10 (wide LCD). The user is also at liberty to add either a black or white border.
Pros
PhotoLab gives the user artistic effects and a wide range of photographic tweaks combined with great creative modes. It has ability to scales to the iPhone’s full resolution, auto-rotate images together with its split-screen preview option makes it the best iPhone photo app.
Cons
Its Unwieldy interface, Puny, “Hover” pop-ups disappear erratically, hard-to-adjust slider button and the fact that saving changes makes original image inaccessible from within program are among the few shortcoming of this iPhone photo app.
Unlike many other iPhone photo apps that aim to turn images to objets, PhotoLab gives the user the best iPhone images, with wide range of artistic effects combined with standard image-editing features such as ability to contrast, tweak brightness and saturation.
